Types of Volunteers Needed
There are three different volunteer roles that you might fill:
Direct Patient Volunteer
Bereavement Volunteer
Support Volunteer
Direct Patient Volunteer
Many people who come to Hospice of Lubbock choose Direct Patient volunteering. As a Direct Patient Volunteer, you will be a much-needed friend to an assigned hospice patient and their family. You may help this patient by sitting with them while their primary caregiver takes a break, shops for groceries or runs other important errands. The wonderful 24 hour training as a Hospice of Lubbock volunteer will prepare and equip you with the skills and tolls necessary to deal with the issues involved with death and dying and will also orient you with the Hospice of Lubbock organization. When you have completed your 24 hours of hospice training you will also be certified as a Bereavement Volunteer which will allow you to follow your patient's family after the death of the patient.
Support Volunteer
These important volunteers help to keep the Hospice of Lubbock offices running smoothly. A support volunteer might be found filing, copying, helping with mail-outs, doing computer work or helping with fundraising events. We are also looking for volunteers who can sew special "Memory Bears" made from clothing items from patients on our service. These precious mementos are returned to the patients' families as keepsakes. Patterns/instructions are provided.
