Hospice Care does not end with the death of the patient. Hospice of Lubbock offers bereavement services to family members for 16 months following the death of the patient and sometimes longer. Grief counseling is also available to the community and includes the following:
Telephone Calls and Cards To provide emotional support, Hospice of Lubbock’s staff or volunteers call or send a card to the caregiver on a monthly basis or for special occasions.
Home or Office Visits To offer compassionate listening, caring and direction, Hospice of Lubbock’s staff meet individually with bereaved persons in their home or at the Hospice Grief Recovery Center at the request of the bereaved family members.
Mailings Grief-related material is sent to each caregiver following the death of the patient and for special occasions.
Memorial Services Twice a year, Hospice of Lubbock holds a memorial service to give family members and staff an opportunity to celebrate the lives and honor the memories of loved ones who have died on Hospice service.
O.W. English Children’s Grief Camp This fun-filled day is held for children and grandchildren of patient’s currently on service and those who have died within the last two years. The camp emphasized fun, but is interspersed with therapeutic activities to help the children verbalize and process their feelings of grief.
Individual and Family Unit Counseling Hospice of Lubbock employs three full-time Texas-licensed Bachelor’s level social workers, two Master’s level Chaplains and one Master’s level Counselor. Specialized counseling is available for children and adults.
