Hospice care does not end with the death of the patient.  Hospice of Lubbock offers bereavement services to family members for 14 months following the death of the patient and sometimes longer.  Bereavement care is also available to the community and includes the following:

TELEPHONE CALLS AND CARDS

To provide emotional and empathic support, Hospice staff or volunteers make attempts to call or send a card to the caregiver on a monthly basis or for special occasions.

HOME OR OFFICE VISITS

To offer compassionate listening, caring and direction, Hospice staff meet individually with bereaved persons in their home or at the Hospice office at the request of the bereaved family members.

MAILINGS

Grief-related material is sent to each caregiver following the death of the patient and for special occasions.

BEREAVEMENT GROUP SUPPORT

Hospice of Lubbock offers a 12-week Adult Support Group three times a year to provide a commonly shared experience among bereaved persons.  Hospice of Lubbock also offers both Men's and Women's Support Groups.  Hospice Rainbows is a support group for children who have experienced a loss.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this program with the child (children).

MEMORIAL SERVICES

Twice a year, Hospice of Lubbock holds a memorial service to give family members and staff an opportunity to celebrate the lives and honor the memories of loved ones who have died on Hospice service.

O.W. ENGLISH CHILDREN'S GRIEF CAMP

This fun-filled day is held for children and grandchildren of current patients and those who have died within the last year.  The camp emphasizes fun, but is interspersed with therapeutic activities to help the children verbalize and process their feelings of grief.

INDIVIDUAL & FAMILY UNIT COUNSELING

Hospice of Lubbock employs three full-time Texas-licensed Bachelor's level social workers, two Master's level Chaplains and one Master's level Counselor.  Specialized counseling is available for children and adults.

There is no charge for bereavement services.  If you or someone you know wish to take advantage of these services, contact the Bereavement Services Supervisor at (806)795-2751.
